On Tuesday 6th February 2018, pupils in Years 5 and 6 were privileged to hear the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Palace Theatre in Redditch . As the NYJO were performing a public concert in the evening they very kindly agreed to present a hour’s concert in the afternoon to Worcestershire pupils.
Jazz can, at times, be quite challenging to listen to and the NYJO gave an excellent performance which provided a very good introduction to this type of music. Our pupils were enthralled by not only listening to the orchestra, but by seeing so many first class musicians in action. For those pupils in Years 5 & 6 who play an orchestral instrument, seeing players perform another style of music other than pop or classical, shows how versatile music can be.
It was a great afternoon – music was learnt aurally and visually!
