Day 2 saw the groups rotating round to different activities. With both morning and afternoon activities, and mass in the evening, Day 2 is always very busy. Today there was more biking along the beautiful Churnet Valley. Along the route the group stop for a reflection on the words of At Paul, where they thought about perseverance in the face of difficulties, which was very useful to them on the final stretch of the biking route: a long, steep climb up from the valley, back to the Castle!
A different group took part in the survival session today, enjoying den building and fire lighting, linked to Pentecost and the symbolism of flames for the Holy Spirit. Afterwards they were rewarded for their efforts with ‘hot mud’ and ‘marsh squirrels’ round the camp fire; yum!
Archery was a new activity for today, with the children learned how to hold and shoot a bow and arrow, and enjoyed some archery challenges. As part of the activity they reflected on more words from St. Paul, advising one of the early Christian communities on how to be a good Christian. The group then meditated on what it takes to be a Christian today.
Trekking through the fantastic countryside in the Churnet Valley was also on the timetable today, and what a lovely day it was for a walk and talk with friends.
During the evening there was mass, followed by a disco and the option to watch England play Denmark!
