Year 6 have had a very busy time at Alton Castle today, starting with group games and settling into their dormitories.
After lunch the children split into three groups and took part in different activities, including low ropes course, biking, survival course and the night line.
The survival course involved learning about survival priorities, working together to build shelters and learning how to build a camp fire. Their reward for all of this hard work was a marshmallow, to toast on their fire. This session included a meditation, where they children thought about refugees and what it would be like to be a refugee without a home, just like the Holy Family.
The low ropes course involved the children working as a team again, and reflecting on how we are all different parts of one body and how we can all play our part in carrying out Jesus’ work on Earth.
After dinner it was the nightline. This time of year it is still light until late, so the children wore blindfolds to simulate being in the dark; again relying on teamwork and trust to get them through the course successfully.
The day finished, as it always does at Alton Castle, with night prayer. A beautiful way to thank God for their wonderful day and settle down for bed.
Thank you to Mr Hall, Mrs Barker and Miss Annis for taking such good care of the children. Hopefully you will all sleep well tonight ready for more excitement tomorrow!
Here are a few photos to give a flavour of some of today’s activities; more photos to follow tomorrow.
