Year 6 DT: Biscuits

In DT this term Year 6 are focussing on food technology. Their topic is ‘Biscuits’. Last week the children investigated a range of biscuits looking at the key, basic ingredients named on the packing, styles of biscuits (iced, sandwiched, chocolate, fruit etc), cost per biscuit and what type of occasion they felt each biscuit was designed to be eaten at; from everyday to celebration.

This week the children researched basic biscuit recipes and carried out a focused practical task in following the recipe and developing the baking skills that they will need later on in the term when they design and make their own biscuits: weighing, breaking eggs in, mixing, rolling, cutting out shapes. Needless to say it was an exciting afternoon of learning and the whole school smelt amazing while the biscuits were in the oven.

Well done Year 6 (and Mrs Breakwell). We can’t wait to see what extra ingredients you will choose for your own recipes, and see how they will turn out!
