On Thursday Year 5 had their outdoor learning session. They were challenged to build a structure using a square based pyramid framework, then devise their own method of enclosing it. The children worked only with natural materials that they found in the Forest School area, and found a variety of methods that worked well for filling in the sides, such as weaving sticks, and packing mud to them, in a wattle and daub type method that they had learned about in Year 2 in their Great Fire of London topic.
In their history lessons Year 5 are learning about the Ancient Egyptians. Their attempts to fill in the sides with stones were not very successful-making them realise just how amazing the construction of the pyramids were!
