In their science this half term Year 5 are learning about forces. They took this learning out into the Forest School area to learn about pulleys, and see for themselves how some mechanisms (such as pulleys) allow a smaller force to have a greater effect. The class discussed their understanding of forces and then designed a simple mechanism using trial and error, using ropes, logs, tyres and different knots. Each group was given the challenge of using the power of pulleys and friction to lift sticks, logs, tyres…and even children!
Afterwards the class talked about what they had done, and what they had learnt, back at Base Camp. Great work Everyone.
