Year 5 had an amazing STEM workshop that linked to their class topic, ‘Pole to Pole’. The children learnt how to use Microbits, exploring how to make badges, create patterns and programme a thermometer, which they then tested inside and outside of the classroom.
After they had learnt the basics, the class programmed their Microbits to trap a Microbit polar bear, that had been hidden on the playground. The children had to code their Microbit to the correct frequency in order to track down their polar bear. They then went out onto the playground on a polar bear hunt. The closer they got closer to where the polar bear was hidden, the more lights appeared on their Microbit. It was great fun, and the children learnt so much! Thank you to Sarah Lalor, from StemWorks for such a wonderful learning experience.
