As part of their art and design curriculum in the Summer Term, Year 4 learn how to screen print, before designing and making their own screen print artwork. This year the class linked their screen printing to the Take One Picture painting, Henri Rousseau’s ‘Surprise’. They focussed on the leaves and how the different shapes and colours overlapped, and drew their own leaf shapes in their sketch books. In addition they looked at animal footprints (inspired by the tiger in the picture). Once they had done this they chose up to three elements to include in their screen print, drew them on thick paper, and cut them out-being careful to discard the shape they had cut out in the middle and retain the outside piece.

Working with Mrs Brennan, or Mrs Breakwell each child then screen printed their three elements individually, with the second and third element being printed over the existing ones, once dry. Have a look at what they produced?
