Year 3: Number 8 Community Project

On Wednesday Year 3 were lucky enough to take part in a workshop organised by Number 8, led by artist Maggi Davis.

The session started with the children looking at an old handmade purse, from Pershore Heritage Museum to provide inspiration workshop.

Each child cut out the shape of a purse from felt, and then they were shown how to stitch the purse together, using blanket stitch or overstitch.

The purses were then finished off with fasteners, created by handsewing on a button, or a ribbon.

The children learnt lots of create skills, including:

Cutting to a pattern

Needle threading

Sewing – blanket stitch or overstitch

Sewing on a button

The purses will be exhibited at Number 8 as part of their Pershore Heritage Exhibition, and then each child will be able to take their purse home.

Thank you to Number 8 and to Maggi Davis, Ellen Honeybunn and the volunteers who supported the children and gave them such an enjoyable afternoon of learning.
