Year 2 have had fun bringing the Bible stories of Holy Week to life in class! They began the week by acting out the story of Palm Sunday, where Jesus journeyed from Bethany to Jerusalem. They created palm leaves to wave as Jesus rode past them on a donkey, shouting ‘Hosanna!’ to praise Him.
The following day, the classroom looked very different as the children imagined that they were entering the room where Jesus and his disciples shared the Last Supper. Children took on the roles of those who were there. Jesus shared the bread and wine with everyone and they were shocked when Judas was revealed as the one who would betray Him!
The children also explored the famous artwork ‘The Last Supper’, created by Leonardo Da Vinci, and were artists themselves, recreating this special time in Jesus’ life.
The class continued their journey through Holy Week in their next lesson, focusing on the Crucifixion and reflecting on the symbolism of the cross. They created Easter cards using the cross as the focal point, with a watercolour background representing Jesus ‘washing away our sins’.
What a wonderful way to remember Jesus and to continue the children’s Lenten journey!
