Year 2 had a fantastic time out in the Eco Garden and Forest School areas this afternoon. The sun shone and the weather was mild, giving a real feeling that Spring was in the air.
The children started off by working together in the Eco Garden, carrying out jobs off Bob’s list. They weeded one of the beds and turned the soil over ready for planting, used hoes to clean the moss of the bricks and paving slabs and watered the trees.
Afterwards they went frog fishing in the pond, but caught a newt! They talked with Mrs Andrews about newts and the similarities and differences between frogs and newts. The newt the children caught wasn’t a great created newt, but Mrs Andrews took the opportunity to tell the children that we have some of these endangered newts locally and about how they are protected by law.
The class then picked some cleavers and some mint, and used these antioxidant-rich plants to infuse their water for a refreshing drink after all their hard work.
As a reward for their stewardship efforts the children were taken into the Forest School area and given tarps, ropes and digging equipment, so that they could make dens.
What a wonderful morning of outdoor learning. Thank you Mrs Andrews.
