Year 2 wowed us all this morning when they led assembly for the whole school, and all of their families. They shared with us what they have been learning about in RE this half term-which is a focus on Old Testament stories. What a lot of stories they know!

The children retold some of the stories, two with small dramas (David and Goliath & Abraham and Isaac) and one by showing a Puppet Pals animation that they had made (Noah’s Ark). They made links between the stories and explained that in each of them God was asking his followers to do important jobs for Him. The class told us that God has important jobs for all of us too. They told us that luckily God isn’t asking us to fight giants, nor build huge boats, but is asking us to take care of our planet (Stewardship) and each other (Options for the Poor and Vulnerable & Family and Community).

The class amazed everyone with their confident speaking, acting and computing skills and their beautiful singing, and especially with the lovely prayers that they wrote. Here are some of them:

Dear God,

Please help me to be kind, like you. You are gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

Amen

God of Strength,

Please help me to be more like you, and thank you for my bother.     Amen

O Compassionate God,

You are hopeful and kind. Please help me to be more like you.     Amen
