Year 1 had a very productive morning of outdoor learning today. In the Eco Garden they planted lettuce in the beds that they had prepared before Easter, then enjoyed a minibeast hunt through the garden. They found some woodlice who had made a home under some leaves that were moved into the compost heap, so the children make an impromptu bug hotel and relocated them, showing excellent stewardship in caring for our wonderful planet and it’s creatures.
Later in the morning the gave the playground a makeover, taking part in the Great Grounds Clean-up competition; pulling up weeds to go in the compost heap, sweeping paths and scraping moss. They did a fantastic job and it was also a great way to develop their gross motor and teamwork skills: a great way to exemplify the dignity of work too-an important element of our Catholic Social Teaching.
Well done Everyone.
