Year 1 Forest School: Animals

Today Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of outdoor learning at Forest School. They talked about birds and mammals and the differences between them. The children were then put into groups, with each group being given a toy animal. They worked together to decide if their animal was a bird or a mammal, and to find out about more about them and where in the world (and in which habitat) they live.

Afterwards the children had great fun showing their animals around the Forest School area, finding places for them to live and making up stories about them. The monkey was very happy exploring the trees, the elephant found his way to the mud kitchen and very naughtily ate rice from the pan, and the parrot was very lucky-her group made a pirate ship for her to live on.

During their choosing time some children used the climbing area for the first time and achieved a milestone by climbing their first tree!
