Last week Year 1 had a wonderful day of outdoor learning at Sandfield Farm, as part of their science topic on plants. The children explored different areas of the farm, where they encountered a wide range of plants and talked about their similarities and differences, as well as their purposes. This included walking through the orchards, where the class were amazed saw the blossoms on lots of the trees. The class were very excited to see that on some of the trees had started growing into pears.
During the visit the class enjoyed looking at different varieties of grasses and plants that the farm grows for the cows to feed on, and learnt about how these are harvested and stored. They were even lucky enough sit on the quad bike that the farmers use!
Year 1’s favourite part was definitely exploring the large forest school area on the farm, where they enjoyed getting muddy, playing games and running through the trees and beautiful wildflowers.
Thank you to Emma at Sandfield Farm for such a fantastic day.
