Year 1 led a beautiful assembly this morning for the school and for their parents. The theme of the assembly was following Jesus. The children began by singing ‘Love one another and be kind’, reminding us that Jesus asks his followers to take care of each other. This linked beautifully to the Catholic Social Teaching principles of Solidarity and Family and Community.
They then showed us the work they had been doing on the Sacrament of Baptism, linking it to the Feast of the Presentation. Their drama was wonderful and the symbols of Baptism were beautifully explained. Everyone in the hall smiled when they sang ‘This little light of mine’ with such energy and enthusiasm.
After reading some very reflective prayers which they had written in class, they shared with us, through their artwork, how they were following Jesus.
The assembly ended with the Jubilee Calypso. As they marched and sang with gusto, we were all aware that these wonderful children are most definitely on a pilgrimage to share kindness, love and hope with us all. It was no surprise that their parents had such beaming smiles on their faces as they left the hall.
