To celebrate World Numeracy Day, children across the school had a fun, problem-solving afternoon! In Year 2 they worked together in teams to work out how to achieve different amounts of points in order to win different prizes at the Hoopla game.  They had to discuss and record different ways make a range of totals, using their knowledge of addition, multiplication and number bonds.  They then put their ideas into action by playing the game and testing their ideas out. 

To end the afternoon, the children gathered for a circle time with a twist…a number natter!  They reflected on how they feel about maths, where they see numbers in the community and what their favourite or magic numbers are. What a great day!

In Year 1 the children played bowling, fishing, target throwing and tin can alley-all with a maths element involved, and then as an Unhomework project they made their own posters about maths.

Year 3 worked together to design a Community Park, and had to consider all of the relevant cost involved. They used special offers, such as 50% off and £2 discounts, to help them keep their costs down and find the cheapest way to refurbish the park. Lots of children were very thrifty and successfully worked out the cheapest way. They also made their own clock faces to help them in their maths lessons on time-Well done Year 3!
