On Saturday 21 March our two football teams (U9 and U11) competed against twelve other Catholic schools in our annual tournament. The venue was Blessed Edward’s and a very exciting morning was had by all.

The U11 team played four matches. First they faced St Ambrose and won 1 – 0. A wonderful cross by Ronan was finished superbly by Owen, who placed the ball in the back of the net. The next match was against St Joseph’s. This was really nail-biting as, despite numerous attacks on goal by our forwards, their goalie was very strong and the end result was a scoreless draw.
Our goalie Niall had to work hard during the next two matches and he was amazing. We faced a strong St Bede’s side (a middle school) and despite some fantastic defence work from Max, Tanwa and Lewis, we were unlucky and lost 1 – 0. Olivia and Ciaran also played with great determination. What a fantastic team effort!
A massive well done to everyone for their energy, grit and eagerness to win. Both teams were one point off a place in the final.
Thank you to our wonderful coaches: John McManus (who spent quite a few Friday afternoons in school), Glen Deary and Jon Guppy. Both teams were a credit to you.
We are also very grateful to Glen for organizing sponsorship for our new school kit. Don’t they look great? Mr Garrett from Evesham sponsored the U9 kit and Neil Annis (Winstanley) sponsored the U11. We thank them for their wonderful generosity.
