The Very Busy Spider: Reception Class

Last week Reception Class used the book ‘The Very Busy Spider’, By Eric Carle, to base their learning on. They were very busy themselves, making spiders on the creation station and modelling table, and writing facts about spiders to go in the Writing Web. Did you know that water spiders eat tiny fish?

They also kept busy by working in groups to create webs using art straws and sticks. In phonics they caught objects in webs and wrote the words using their phonic knowledge. In Maths they explored doubles in a variety of ways and  learnt some of these facts off by heart. The children also enjoyed the PTA Olympic Day, when they made and ate yummy banana sushi, made Japanese flags and were athletes, running races. The children have also been practising for the Euros and Wimbledon and have become better tennis players and footballers by practising skills with their friends.
