This term the school has been taking part in the National Gallery’s Take One Picture project. This year’s painting is called ‘Penelope and the Suitors’ by the 16th Century Italian artist Bernardino di Betto of Perugia, or better known as Pintoricchio.
Reception and Key Stage 1 looked at the painting and used it as a stimulus for their performance ideas. Reception class looked at the patterns in the painting and created their own hats using similar ideas. They displayed their hats as if they were all on a catwalk. Year 1 performed a lovely cat dance (to the tune ‘Macavity: the Mystery Cat’) as a small cat appears in the picture. Finally, Year 2 displayed their knowledge of similes, personification and rhyme by reciting their own acrostic poems about Odysseus and his adventures.
Also, the pupils sang two songs about paintings – ‘Look at a Picture’ at the start of the assembly, and ‘The Take One Picture Song’ at the end.
The pupils danced and sang beautifully, spoke clearly and were a credit to the school. The performed to a packed hall full of parents and friends. Mrs Williams, the Deputy Headteacher, thanked the pupils and staff for all their hard work.
