We started this topic by thinking about the Liturgical Year, its colours, and symbols and which parts of Jesus’ life they celebrate. We spent some time researching how Christians in other countries celebrate Christmas and found out about Los Postades, the African custom of drums and the Irish Custom of lighting a candle in the window, Los Postades
African Tradition of Drums
Irish Tradition of Lighting a Candle in the Window
We also looked at photographs and pictures of people gathered together for family occasions and thought about what was happening in the photographs, who were gathered together, and for what reason.
Baptism
We revisited what we had learnt about Baptism when we were in Reception Class. We then looked at the symbolism associated with the rite of Baptism. We used these symbols to draw pictures for Baptism cards,
and we wrote Baptism prayers to go inside them. We gave the cards to Deacon Pat to give to the families of children who come to Holy Redeemer to be baptised.
