Seaside Week in Pre-school

The children at Hopscotch enjoyed their previous book so much we kept the water theme and read ‘Sharing a Shell,’ written by Julia Donaldson, as our book as a hook to learning. We focused on how we can share with our friends and develop resilience, thinking about our personal, social and emotional development.

The children used lots of sensory learning this week. They used the book to make sound shakers, modelled on the different sea-creature characters. The weather was very hot, so we imagined what it would be like to discover hidden objects in a rock pool, using our toes. The following day we filled a tough spot with water and paddled with bare feet, thinking of sensory words to describe the sea.

We spent some time finding out why it is important to be a kind friend, just like the fish in the story.
