Our second week at science club saw us investigating forces. We investigated how we could use a force, capture the energy and release it to thrust a cube as far as possible. The children discussed their ideas of how gravity makes an object fall, how an object’s mass can change the rate at which it falls, and the force that is needed to propel it.
The only objects we could use were bendy lolly pop sticks and rubber bands. We tried different styles of catapult, then adapted and improved them to gain more energy and improve their thrust. Finally, we held a competition to see which catapult fired the cube the farthest.
