Reception Round-up: Seaside Week

Last week Reception Class found Henrietta on a beach in their classroom, with a parcel! She had delivered the story book ‘What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside’, and a non-fiction book about coral reefs. The children have loved using the beach area to read a range of non-fiction and fiction books and explore shells.

The class have also been making ladybirds on the creation station and drawing pictures of them on the interactive board.

In the finger gym the children have been finding, collecting and counting the mini ladybirds and on the writing table have been focusing on reading and writing the tricky words.

In science Reception have started a new topic about living things in their habitats. They worked in teams to think of as many minibeasts as they could in 5 minutes and then went into the school grounds to find some! They found lots of woodlice, ladybird larvae, flies and ants.

In RE the children have been learning about where God’s family gather, talking about the families they belong to and the different jobs people have to do to help in church. They have enjoyed pretending to clean the church, be flower arrangers,  altar servers, ministers and people reading prayers and passages from the Bible. They each then chose which job they would like to do the most and explained why. What would you like to do?
