Reception Forest School: Learning About Stewardship

In Forest School this week Reception Class were working on our School Live Simply local action, which is all about stewardship and learning to be good stewards of our environment.

Mrs Andrews and the children looked at the bug hotel and realised that it needed to be improved, so they searched the Forest School area to find natural items to add to it, to keep insects and minibeasts cosy over the colder, winter months. They found dried grass, bits of straw, sticks (which they broke into smaller pieces), rose petals that had been blown off by the wind, soft, cosy leaves and a feather! There were lots of opportunities to talk about how we need to protect our invertebrates as they are reducing in numbers and this is affecting the rest of our ecosystems.

Later, in their choosing time, some of the children decided to make nests for the birds that visit the Forest School area, showing that they are destined to become great stewards!

Well done Everyone, and thank you!
