Reception Class Weekly Round-up

In Maths last week, Reception Class listened to the story ‘A Squash and A Squeeze’, by Julia Donaldson, to help them learn about comparing quantities, and using the vocabulary of more and fewer. They put animals and people into two houses, counted them and then added the correct vocabulary label. The children also created patterns using a range of resources.

Henrietta the Hedgehog delivered them the book ‘This is the Bear and Scary Night’ ,in which a man with a slide trombone rescues the main character. The class were very lucky and had a visit from Mr Johnston (our Brass teacher) who played his slide trombone for them! They loved listening to him playing the instrument.

On Thursday afternoon the class went on their first outing, to compare the park in the story book to Abbey Park. They discovered lots of similarities, such as both parks had lamp posts and trees but the children thought Abbey Park had lots more features which they loved looking at. The class also took the opportunity to spot some signs of autumn and collect some conkers and leaves to bring back to the classroom to look at more closely.
