This week Reception Class carried out a mini D&T topic all about Fantastic Fruit. They started by learning about, and exploring, different fruits in class and then visited the greengrocers in Pershore, to look at the shop and to buy some different fruits to taste.

Back at school the children enjoyed trying lots of different fruits, dried, tinned and fresh, including dried cranberries, fresh persimmons and tinned mandarins. They learned that humans need to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day in order to stay healthy, and looked at what a portion looks like.

The class then planned and designed their own layered fruit dish with the fruits they liked best. They learned how to safely prepare the fruits and prepared their dish, ready to eat at snack time. After tasting them the children evaluated their dishes, talking about what they liked best and what they would change next time.  As everyone’s fruit dish creations included at least one portion of fruit, these helped them in their goal of eating the recommended daily intake of fruit and veg on that day-well done Everyone!
