Reception class started National Numeracy Day with a Number Natter – where they talked about what they think of when they hear the word ‘maths’ and talked about what maths can look like. The children couldn’t believe how often we use maths; from estimating ‘have we got enough time to read a story before play time?’ to ‘whose beanstalk grew the tallest?’ They also spent time looking at patterns around their classroom, and counting how many house points they had earned that week! Afterwards they went on a Number and Maths Hunt around school, and to finish played ‘Dotty Six’,  where the class played in two teams to fill squares with 6 counters and try to get 3 in a row to win. The children really enjoyed playing this game so much that lots of them chose to carry on playing it in their own learning time. Great job Reception!
