Reception Class Minibeasts Topic

This week we have started a new mini topic all about minibeasts. We went on a mini beast hunt around the school grounds to find creepy crawlies. We found bees, woodlice, ants and snails.

In Maths we have been learning about addition using the ‘first, then and now’ story boards. We have also been practising putting the first number in our heads and counting on.

In phonics, some of the children have been recapping the Phase 3 graphemes and writing sentences containing the oi grapheme.  We have also been writing notes for our teacher to let her know where we have hidden minibeasts in the garden.

We have been enjoying playing bug related games together.

We have been busy getting ready to change our role play area into a Minibeast Zoo. We have used clay to make some bugs to live in our zoo. We wrote lists of the things we needed to get the zoo ready. We focused on using our phonic knowledge to write our lists.

We have been enjoying looking at both fiction and non-fiction books about bugs.
