This week in Reception Class we have continued our learning based around Handa’s Hen and Africa. We looked carefully at where Handa lives and the environment surrounding her and then compared it to our school grounds. We worked together to create two large displays to show some of the similarities and differences between the two environments.
In Maths we started the week by learning to count in 10s and using this to help us count a large amount of objects. We took part in some relay races to collect objects and put them in groups of 10.
We then moved onto developing our understanding of spatial reasoning. We worked in groups to make pictures using shapes and then we individually designed a shape picture to draw around so we could keep the picture and make it again.
As part of our Challenge Passports we have been retelling the story of Handa’s Hen. We have also been practising our blending to match some pictures to the correct words.
In RE we have been learning about the church building being a special place and the work of the priest. We visited church to carry out a treasure hunt to help us find and identify some artefacts in church. We were also very lucky to bump into Deacon Pat. He showed us Jesus and said a prayer for us. It was lovely to spend some time in this special building.
