In Forest School last week Reception Class focussed on their class book, What the Ladybird Heard, by Julia Donaldson. They began the afternoon by retelling the story, before becoming detectives. They set out to search Forest School for clues about Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh (the robbers from the book). They found a lot of clues, such as a red hat, some boots, a red rope that was used to steal the cow, and a bandana. The children found lots of evidence: some relevant and some not. They worked together to evaluate the evidence they had collected and decide which ones were relevant.
Afterwards they made, and set, traps in order to catch the robbers if they came back, including the covering the digging area hole with leaves and making nets from ropes.
As Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh had previously visited the Reception classroom and stolen items, the children took some of their nets back to class, just in case…
