Last week the children in Key Stages 1 and 2 took part in workshops called ‘When Great Granny Came to Stay’. They were provided by the charity ‘Kissing it Better’. The fun, interactive workshops were delivered by founder, and Chief Executive, Jill Fraser (who used to be a BBC reporter), but who now visits primary schools across the country working to end the isolation of old age by bringing generations together.

The sessions are designed to help young children understand the challenges of old age; they’ve been shown to help children to engage more effectively with older relatives and neighbours.

During the workshops Jill talked to the children about the many and varied challenges that older relatives face when visiting them, and worked with the children to help overcome them by acting out scenarios with them, where she played their great granny, who had come for a visit.

The children and staff very much enjoyed the sessions and learn lots. There were so many things we hadn’t thought of, from finding the right seat (position, height and softness, to knowing what to talk to great granny about and how to make her feel special). Thank you Jill.
