In maths, the children took part in an adult-led activity where they made counting flowers. They did a great job of drawing around their hands and cutting them out. They then explored matching numerals to quantities by showing the correct number of fingers. They also counted out paper clips to match the numeral on their flower too, developing their counting skills and number recognition.

At the painting table, the children created beautiful spring trees using brown paint for the trunk and colour mixing different shades of pink for blossom, using tools such as cut straws and cotton buds for stamping.

A favourite activity this week was sensory play, using their hands and fingers to spread the foam and practice mark making in it.

The class finished the week with a spring hunt at Forest School, where the children enjoyed exploring the natural environment and spotting seasonal features.

In Seedlings Class, our youngest pupils have also enjoyed a wonderful spring-themed week of learning, filled with a range of engaging and creative activities. During phonics carpet time, the children took part in singing “Walking Through the Farm,” where they listened carefully to environmental sounds and had great fun copying them, supporting their listening skills and early phonics development.

In maths, the children joined in enthusiastically with counting songs such as “Five Speckled Frogs”, helping to build confidence with numbers through rhythm and repetition.

There were, of course, lots of opportunities for sensory play in Seedlings too, using foam and water, this week.

The class also explored art this week, by making beautiful spring blossom trees, using pink paint and using a stamping technique, with the end of a bottle, to create blossom effects. A highlight of the week was dancing to “Hop Little Bunny,” and carefully following the instructions as well as moving in time to the music! This was a great activity for supporting both physical development and listening skills.

Wow Hopscotch. What a very busy first week back!
