During ‘Sing-a-Song of Sixpence’ week, Pre-school children enjoyed examining coins, just like the king in the song. They discussed how many sides different coins have, and looked at the numerals on them. They then created their own coin rubbings by placing a coin under a piece of paper and using a crayon laid on its side to colour on top.
The children practised fine motor skills by using a magnetic bird to pick up worms and feed them to the baby bird. They used ‘pinchy fingers’ to open the pegs and hang the washing on the line.
While exploring different 2D shapes, the children created blackbirds, using circles for their heads and eyes, rectangles for their bodies, and triangles for their wings and beaks.
In science, they investigated the strength of different peg designs by hanging socks on a washing line and adding various heavy objects, such as rocks and sand, one at a time, to see which peg could hold the most weight. This experiment helped the children to determine which peg was the strongest.
In RE, there were discussions regarding who the adults are at school who help care for us, just as God cares for everyone. The children made thank-you cards for the dinner ladies who provide lunches, the ladies in the office, the teachers, and for Mrs. Hall for looking after the school.
The role play area was transformed into a shop where play trolleys were used to transport food. The children took it in turns to be the shopkeeper using the till, whilst their customers used money to pay for food.
