It has been a busy start to the new academic year in Hopscotch. We have enjoyed getting to know lots of new children, as well as welcoming back some returning children. This term we have started with the topic ‘Who am I?’. We looked at Julia Donaldson’s book ‘Monkey Puzzle’, where Monkey compared himself to different parents.
We have taken time to get to know each other, and learn about who is in our family, and think about how each family is different. The children learned our song of the week ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ and learned the names of different body parts by making up our own version.
Children go through different stages of pen grip, and our littlest children explore this through drawing and writing, as well as painting and holding different types of equipment. This week, making our faces in different ways, such as painting, was definitely fun. The children used their new knowledge to draw around one of one of their classmates, then label and colour all the body parts we could think of.
We represented our houses in many ways using construction equipment. Our favourite activity was to build using blocks and bricks, then we learned to carefully count each one…before knocking down our house!
