This week Pre-school are beginning to think about senses to help the children with their learning journey.  The children used ‘Eye Spy’ bags that hold tiny object that are hidden in rice.  Every time you shake them you find something new!  The children are also developing their pencil grip so that they can draw what they can see. 

Pre-school used their sense of smell by exploring egg moulds that each contained a different cotton wool smell, such as lavender, peppermint and chocolate oil. 

Talking and learning new words are important to our youngest children.  We used textured materials for them to touch and to say how each one felt. There were also opportunities to listen to other children’s ideas. Adults gave them new vocabulary to explore too. 

The class made this a sorting week in maths, where the children sorted small objects into different categories, such as colour.  They tried to make other ways of sorting, and some children thought about things such as wheels and no wheels.  A favourite activity was sorting pictures of fruit and vegetables, and foods that are for treats.  

In RE the children thought about what they could do to look after God’s world.  The children wanted to have some plants in their classroom and learn how to look after them.  They also planted bulbs in the pre-school winter garden area. Another very busy week!
