Last week in Pre-School, the children enjoyed the starting off our Traditional Tales topic with the much-loved story of The Three Little Pigs.

One of the children’s favourite activities was making flapjacks: measuring and mixing the ingredients together to make their very own ‘brick’ from the third little pigs house!

At the mark making table, the children sequenced the story by cutting and ordering pictures to create their own story maps. They practised their scissor skills by cutting different sized circles to make pigs, and used their fine motor skills to carefully draw eyes, noses and curly tails.

In maths, the children matched different materials to the correct houses and used mathematical language such as first, second and third to retell the story. They also practised number formation by carefully writing over numbers.

At the creative table, the children independently painted pig features and explored colour mixing, discovering how to make pink by combining red and white. In the tough tray, they retold the story using character spoons along with straw, sticks and bricks, helping to build confidence in storytelling, imagination and language as they enthusiastically huffed and puffed to blow the houses down! What an exciting week!
