Pre-school Round-up: Spring Week 2

During their second week of learning based around the theme of Spring, Hopscotch enjoyed lots of fun activities designed to develop their Early Years Curriculum knowledge and skills, including placing specified numbers of ‘spots’ on ladybirds, making repeating patterns with different coloured spring flowers (and spotting errors in ready made sequences) in maths.
 
In the area of expressive arts and design the children used pipetted to colour mix water-colour paint (placing two colours on the cotton pad and watching them mix together), then drawing petals around the pad to make a flower. The children were fascinated to see what new colours they could make!
 
At Forest School the children enjoyed making nature wristbands, from things found on the floor, and reinforced the forest school rule: ‘no picking’, as well as choosing their own activities: den building, climbing, mud painting, digging and exploring.
 
As part of the children’s physical development this week the children took part in ‘fabric dancing’. They listened to spring music and grew from seeds into flowers, waving their ‘petals’ in the breeze-great for gross motor skills.
 
Our older children continued to work on pencil grip and name writing by writing the letters of their names on green circles, then sticking them together to make ‘caterpillars’ that looked like Eric Carle’s ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
 
In RE Hopscotch continued to learn about Pentecost and symbols of the Holy Spirt, making dove handprints, and a tissue paper fire collage.
