This week in pre-school the children have been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and basing a lot of their learning on this story. The children tried porridge flavoured with different things (salt, sugar, jam and chocolate) and them used post-it notes on a large piece of paper to vote for their favourite and build up a bar chart to see which was the class favourite; no prizes for guessing that chocolate was the winner!
In their maths sessions the children used different coloured plastic bears to make repeating patterns-they were very good at this-as well as ordering a range of bears from smallest to biggest.
During mark making the children drew circle shapes in paint, before adding eyes, ears, mouth and nose, to turn them into bear faces. Fine motor skills were developed by threading string through holes in bear templates and practising pencil grips by following the path through the woods.
In our 2-year-old room, the youngest children enjoyed cuddling, and playing with, teddy bears and deciding which ones they liked best.
In RE the children were learning about Lent. They helped the staff to set up the class altar with a purple cloth and collected purple things from around the classroom. They enjoyed looking at the class Bibles, and finding out that during Lent it is important to say sorry and forgive others. They put this into practice in the class worship session by saying their own sorry prayers.
