Pre-school Round-up

Pre-school’s Get Physical Morning’ was a fantastic event. The children took part in a range of physical activities, with the adults joining in the fun by taking their children around the different challenges. The morning finished with certificates for all of the children who took part. Thank you to our Year 6 prefects for helping to set up and run the event-what great role models you all are!
In class throughout the week the children worked on their number skills using peg board trees; counting how many pegs there were on each tree. This was not only great for their maths development, but also for their fine motor skills.
Last week the ‘Take One Picture’ focus was released (‘Surprise’, by Henri Rousseau). The children were very exited to reveal the picture bit by bit and it produced some fantastic opportunities for observation and prediction, as well as for speaking and listening. Once the full picture was released the children learnt that the painting was of a rainforest setting and they decided that they wanted to make raindrops, threading wool into the holes. They also placed a jug outside to collect rainwater, so we could measure how much rain we have over the next couple of weeks. On closer inspection of the picture some of the children thought they could see lightning in the sky, which led to them making lightning bolts, using glitter because it is “bright like lightning”.
In RE Hopscotch visited Holy Redeemer Church. The children were fascinated by the stained glass windows and had some great insights: “There are twelve people around a white dove like Jesus’ twelve disciples”. Well done Hopscotch: another amazing week of learning!
