This week the children in pre-school have started a new topic; Nursery Rhymes. Each week they will enjoy exploring their learning through different rhymes, new and old.
This week they chose Incy Wincy Spider. The children used the number eight to help practise 1:1 correspondence when counting, by creating their own eight-legged spider pictures. Each spider then needed a spider web, which exercised their fingers by using string to recreate a web.
During phonics the class learned to recite and memorise the rhyme, thinking about their listening skills.
To help with fine motor development, the children made giant spider’s webs with sticky tape, then used tweezers to free the bugs that were caught.
Throughout the week a favourite activity became the spider race that the children invented, where they had to use their new counting skills and large dice.
As part of the PSED strand of the curriculum, the children learned about germs and how important it is to handwash. Some wonderful Year 4 girls demonstrated for them, using glitter to show easily how germs travel, and the best way to wash them off.
In our 2-year-old room this week, the children enjoyed lots of opportunities for sensory play.
This week also saw the end of our Christmas topic in RE. The children have enjoyed getting to know the Holy Family, and using their prayers to be thankful for knowing Jesus a little better.
