This week we based our learning around the book The Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.
After reading the book, we made up actions to help us sequence the story. This helped us learn the life cycle of a caterpillar. We enjoyed working in teams to wrap ourselves up in a cocoon, before bursting out as a caterpillar. We even got to feed the caterpillar as we read the story. Later we played a game of ‘That’s not my caterpillar’ using different textures to feel and describe.
We learned about repeating patterns and 2D shapes in maths, and practised our counting to make a Hungry Caterpillar necklace.
Our word of the week was ‘reflection’, so we explored how mirrors work, to complete a sparkly butterfly.
We even found time during the week to explore our grass area, running up (and rolling down) the hill.
In collective worship we explored the colour purple and said a prayer to help us to be kind and helpful during this time.
