Pre-school: Dinosaurs Week 2

The children enjoyed learning about dinosaurs so much that they wanted to learn more!  We learnt new words ‘excavate, extinct’, as we read ‘Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs’.

In maths we gave dinosaur pictures some spines on their backs.  The older children tried to make repeating patterns with their coloured pegs for the spikes.  We used our knowledge of 2D shapes to create our own multi-shaped dinosaur picture, naming them as we used different shapes.  The children thought about shapes to make large enclosures for their toys using large building blocks.  This became really fun when we tried to make very big enclosures, then we saw how many dinosaurs we could fit inside.

The older children are progressing well in their mark making, and showed resilience by persevering to complete a dinosaur maze picture.  We have enjoyed lot of dinosaur stories this week, and as the weather is getting better we read outside lots too.

In forest school the children finished a fantastic week by using small saws to cut small branches off large logs.  Mrs Andrews taught us how to keep ourselves safe and how to hold the saw correctly.
