In Pre-school, the children have been learning about Chinese New Year, exploring the types of clothing people wear, the foods they eat, and how they celebrate this holiday. 

 

The children engaged in sensory play, using chopsticks to pick up noodles, and practising cutting skills by snipping the noodles into smaller pieces with scissors.  Additionally, chopsticks were used to pick up pom-poms and transfer them from one container to another while the children were timed to see how many they could move in one minute.

 

Afterwards, children matched two halves of the yin-yang symbol and examined Chinese characters.  They even tried creating their own characters using paintbrushes and black paint. 

 

In preparation for Chinese New Year, many people clean their homes. To participate, the children washed the plates and cups in the role play area, and then dried them in order to welcome in the Year of the Snake.
