Following on from ‘All About Me’ week, the children in pre-school continued their learning by thinking about their bodies. During Body Week, the children in pre-school learnt about the different parts of their bodies and showed their understanding by naming them, pointing to them and identifying them! The class explored further by drawing around a friend to make a life-size outline of a body.  They then labelled the parts they knew and learned about other body parts that they didn’t know about, including some organs inside.

Fine motor control work during this week was developed by using tweezers to place cotton buds on pictures to learn about bones, and making peg board faces.

This led to thinking about how doctors help people who break bones and how they look after them; so the role-play area became a hospital.  The children were very good at bandaging each other, and even had a light box that used to create their own x-rays on!

In maths the children in pre-school are developed their early counting skills, using a finger to point to each object and use the number name.  This is still tricky for them, so they learnt how to make this easier by putting the things they were counting in a line.

During Body Week pre-school started a new RE topic on Creation.  They looked at a globe and thought about the amazing things God created, before going into the Eco Garden to look at parts of creation that we look after.
