Hopscotch are very excited to be part of Holy Redeemer’s Take One Picture topic this half term. Last week they slowly revealed parts of the picture so that the children could ask questions about what they spotted. This week the full picture has been revealed. It is ‘A Regatta on the Grand Canal’, by Canaletto. Over the coming weeks Hopscotch will be making a fantastic display to showcase all of their learning that has been based around the painting.
Alongside the picture Hopscotch listened to the book ‘Someone Swallowed Stanley’; a story about a bag that finds its way into the ocean. During their role-play, the children pretended that they were fishermen out on the ocean catching fish. After they had finished fishing they worked on their maths and counted the different fish they had caught. This maths learning then led to making boats and exploring mathematical language to describe the shapes they used. All of the children used many circles around the room, folding them to make semi-circle boats that rocked on curved edges.
In their drawing club lessons, the children focused on drawing circles while learning how to hold pencils correctly. They also continued with working on learning to write their names, focussing on letter sounds and recognising the letter order.
In Seedlings Class one of the children’s favourite activities was their sensory play- swirling foam on a table: great fun.
In Saplings Class, the children love to explore the Eco garden. They enjoyed their first taste of this year’s garden produce last week as there were strawberries and raspberries ready to be picked. How lucky are we all!!!
