Over the last few weeks the children in pre-school have enjoyed learning all about Advent and that we are waiting for Baby Jesus to be born. Each day, during December, the children have opened their wooden Advent calendar, which gave them different tasks and challenges to follow. Their first challenge was to make Advent wreaths for each class-a wonderful example from our youngest children, of the dignity of work, and service to others! The other classes were thrilled to receive their wreaths when the pre-school children delivered them! As part of making the wreaths the class learnt how many candles each wreath needed, and what colours the candles needed to be. They also made their own advent wreaths out of stickle bricks.
In the Book Area the children used masks to retell the story of the nativity and looked at books that retold the story.
The children also practised their fine motor skills by colouring in different nativity pictures, as well as making and painting salt dough crosses: colouring them purple, for Advent.
Then class strengthened their gross motor skills this week, while learning about their new season, winter, by dancing with white ribbons-pretending to be snow.
In maths the class looked at different sized candles and decided whether they were tall or short.
Well done Everyone!
