In Pre-School, our youngest pupils have enjoyed a “Spot” themed week of learning, focusing on the story Where’s Spot? They had lots of fun decorating their own spots, using a range of materials, which helped them to develop their descriptive language and broaden their vocabulary. They explored textures, describing cotton wool as “soft”, sequins as “shiny” and pompoms as “squishy”.

The children also created their own spot artwork using different sized circles. They explored primary colours and began experimenting with colour mixing, using phrases such as “big yellow spot” and “small red circle” to describe their creations.

We also practised positional language through play, encouraging the children to place the soft toy dog in, under and next to the basket. This supported their understanding of key mathematical vocabulary while building confidence in following instructions and describing where objects are.

A favourite activity this week, however, was planting out some potatoes in our Pre-school garden! Great fun. We are looking forward to watching them grow over the next term, and then cooking and eating them!
