Welcome Letter

Dear (future) Year 5,

I hope you have all been keeping well and busy during these difficult times. I am really looking forward to being your class teacher in September!

During Year 5 you will get to experience what it is like to be an older and even more responsible member of Holy Redeemer. In addition to this we get to go on some exciting trips (subject to Covid-19 restrictions) such as: Leicester Space Centre- linked to our first topic of Space, The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford- linked to our topic of Ancient Egypt and, for the first time ever, we are hoping to organise a residential geography field trip!

Over the summer, I would like you to try and complete an unhomework project based on our first topic of Space. You can choose any area that interests you, or that you would like to learn more about, and may present this in any way that you choose. I can’t wait to see what amazing things you will find out and see the range of creative ways that these unhomeworks will be presented in (Mrs Simmonds has told what a fantastic group you are).

As well as the unhomework project, it is important to keep reading. I’d love it if you wanted to share with me your favourite summer reading. We can create a list of Year 5 ‘Recommended Reads’ to put on our reading display.  If you could write a short review of this book, that would be great, otherwise just prepare a short verbal review for us.

If you would like a book recommendation for the summer, I would recommend ‘Why the Whales Came’ by Michael Morpurgo. My current Year 5 class has read this during lock-down and have enjoyed it. In addition to this there are questions to be answered alongside the book on my Year 5 Home Learning page if you decide you would like to have a go.

My school email is phall@holyredeemer.worcs.sch.uk if you or your parents have any questions for me before September. I am excited to be teaching you all and look forward to welcoming you into Year 5 in September.

I am praying for all of you and your families. Keep safe, and try be helpful at home.

Thinking of you all,

Mr Hall
