Oi Frog, Rhyme week

During ‘Oi Frog’ week in pre-school, there was a key focus on rhyming-a really important part of early phonics understanding, inspired by the rhyming in the book. In their phonics lessons the children worked with staff to rhyme objects with their names.

The children loved the story of ‘Oi Frog’ and were very excited to find out more about frogs, so the rest of their learning that week was also frog inspired!

In maths the children used blocks to measure frogs’ tongues, using non-standard measures as a precursor to using standard measures later on when they are in school. They also did shape matching.

The class enjoyed colour mixing, to make green frog hand prints and using tissue paper to collage paper plate frogs.

Name writing is a key element of every week’s learning in pre-school, and this week they practised writing their names on lily pads.

In their ‘Understanding of the World’ lessons the children went on a frog hunt in the eco garden and pond, and in class learnt about the life cycle of a frog.

What a lot of fantastic learning!
